Rounds Galore and More

The ROUNDS GALORE AND MORE SINGERS are Jan Maier, Evy Mayer, Murray Spiegel and Sol "Roundman" Weber. Already lovers of rounds, they were brought together in November 1995 by Evy Mayer, to record the album "Rounds Galore... and More." The album is a companion to Sol Weber's immensely popular book, "Rounds Galore", a collection of over 340 rounds.

"This is a record that a lot of people have been waiting for. What I love about this record is you can learn how to sing these songs. They sound so impressive once you learn them!" - Christine Lavin

"The round is one of my favorite forms of music, not only because of its great and warm social benefits, but also because of the therapeutic results of its mesmerizing repetitions. "Rounds Galore" is a terrific collection: the rounds are presented in a lively and personal way, and cover a range from the well-known to the delightful but obscure. The same could be said for the recording, "Rounds Galore and More!" which makes you feel like you're in the same living room with the 4 singers, and everybody's having a good time." - Peter Schickele

For the past 5 years Jan Maier has developed and taught harmony improvisation classes, and has been the musician for author Joan Borysenko's retreats around the US and Mexico. For the past 9 years she has conducted the Showa Folksong Chorus (Boston satellite campus of a Japanese women's college in Tokyo). She has also performed with Judith Black at the Smithsonian. Classically trained in piano, voice, violin and guitar, she prefers folk music with its active involvement of the audience. Jan gives performances and leads workshops through the country. She has produced and recorded an eclectic CD/tape, "Mountain Skyes", and a children's recording "Pickles & Puppies.

Evy Mayer sings and plays ukulele, guitar, dumbek and a host of other percussion instruments. She has been involved in folk music, and choral singing since the 1960's, and currently performs with Jean Farnworth (as "Double Trouble") and with others. In addition to the "Rounds Galore... and More" CD/tape, she has produced "Born to Shop" and "Soup to Nuts" (both Double Trouble albums). Evy collects and performs popular songs of the early 1900's and children's music. She has performed and led workshops at Festivals up and down the East Coast. She loves international folk dancing, which is where she first met Murray.

Murray Spiegel sings bass in two New Jersey choruses and has performed in several amateur theater productions. His special interest is rounds. Another interest is folkdance, drawing him as far away as Bulgaria. He and his wife, Randi, entertain as the folkdance group "Simchu Na", (which has performed in Festivals in New York and Boston) and lead folk dancing for local community groups. Murray has created the web page for "Rounds Galore... and More" and for "Rounds Galore", located at http://roundz.tripod.com/.

Sol Weber is a round singer/collector/leader. Some quotes -- Pete Seeger: "I've never met anyone who knows more rounds than Sol Weber"; Folk Alliance: "Sol Weber's exuberant personality shines through 'Rounds Galore'"; CNN: "...Roundmaster Sol Weber, an expert on round singing"; New York Magazine: "... may be the world's foremost collector of rounds. He can sing them too". Sol has played the fierce Dragon and other roles in the Christmas Revels at Symphony Space. He loves Magic Squares, is an English Country Dance fanatic, and also leads gospel singing workshops. Sol has published books of collected rounds, and a sight singing guide.
