Note: This page describes setting up a proxy for Microsoft Windows users. Macintosh users should see Setting Proxies for the Macintosh for the Mac version of this discussion.
Netscape browser users who use a proxy must manually change the proxy settings in the Internet Windows Control Panel application to match the Netscape proxy settings before downloads will succeed. (Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers set these values automatically.) Follow the directions below to avoid download problems.
Bring-up your Netscape-defined proxy Preferences window by menu selection
for your version:
Navigator: Options -> Network Preferences -> Proxies
or
Communicator: Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced
-> Proxies
Looking at the Netscape proxy window, you see three radio buttons. One
of these buttons is checked: Direct connection,
Manual proxy, or Automatic
proxy. Just follow the instructions below for whichever button your
Netscape browser has checked. That's all there is to it!
If your Netscape Preferences window has Direct connection to the Internet selected (purple oval above), then you are not using a proxy.
Bring-up the Internet Properties window
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click on the Internet icon
Click on the Connection tab
and place it below the Netscape proxy window as we illustrate below. Now look in the yellow-highlighted area of your Internet Properties window to ensure that the check-box labeled Proxy server is NOT CHECKED.
Now click OK on your Internet Properties window and CANCEL on your Netscape
proxy window. Your proxy conflict is resolved, and you should be able to
download digitalphono music songs successfully.
If your Netscape Preferences window has Manual proxy configuration selected (purple oval above), then click on the VIEW button to the right to view your Netscape proxy. Next bring-up the Internet Properties window:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click on the Internet icon
Click on the Connection tab
and click on the Proxy Server ADVANCED button to view your Internet Properties proxy.
Simply copy the HTTP Proxy address and Port value from your Netscape settings window to the Internet Properties settings window as illustrated below.
Now click OK on your Internet Properties window and CANCEL on your Netscape
proxy window. Your proxy conflict is resolved, and you should be able to
download digitalphono music songs successfully.
If your Netscape Preferences window has Automatic proxy configuration
selected
(purple oval above), then bring-up the Internet Properties window
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click on the Internet icon
Click on the Connection tab
and click the Internet Settings CONFIGURE button. (See note below if you can't find this button.)
Now you can then copy the URL Configuration location over as ilustrated
below. Then click REFRESH and OK on your Internet Properties window
and CANCEL on your Netscape proxy window. Your proxy conflict is resolved,
and you should be able to download digitalphono music songs successfully.
Note: If you are using an Automatic
proxy configuration but your Internet Settings
window does not have a CONFIGURE button then you have two options:
- contact your systems administrator and ask for a manual proxy address, or
- install Internet Explorer 4.x by surfing to Microsoft's IE download page.
