Installation problems

When you first install the Mac player nothing seems to happen for up to a minute. Don't panic -- this is normal. Wait until the installer finishes its work.

If the installer hangs you should try restarting the machine with the extensions disabled. You can do this by restarting the Mac holding down the shift key unt il a message informs you that extensions are diabled. After the installation, r estart the machine.

Sometimes the player installs with a warning that installation on your browser has failed. You can manually edit in the appropriate mime types in the browser's preferences. For Netscape you would go to the edit -> preferences -> navigator -> applications. Check the list to verify that nothing is handled by a2b. Select "new" and ad the following helper applications for each of the four examples. Note that you must choose the a2b player as an application before selecting file type.

Music will not download

At times you might see an "error =" message. This is being addressed, but the workaround for the time being is to hit the "reload" button on your browser.

If the player asks you to save a file called purchase.dll and nothing happens - or if nothing happens when you attempt to download music, it is possible that the correct help application mime types have not been installed in the browser. See Installation Problems for instructions on how to manually correct mime types.

Return to Questions

The player stops playing for a few seconds

It is likely that some other activity is taking place on your Mac. The Mac OS is not multitasking and the player pauses while a page loads in your browser, a floppy is accessed, etc. Steps have been taken to minimize this, but it is impossible to eliminate. The problem will go away when the Mac OS becomes multitasking - OS X in about a year.

The work-around is to minimize the number of other activities taking place on the Mac.

Return to Questions

The player hangs

Force the player to quit (consult Apple help on your machine or read the manual). Make sure you have the latest version of the player. If you are running the latest version please file a report with help@a2bmusic.com.

Return to Questions

Downloaded music to the wrong folder

You can set the default folder from the player's preferences (under the options menu).

Return to Questions

The player is too large and ugly

You can get a smaller version of the player by disabling expanded view under the options menu. If it is still ugly we can't help you at the moment.

Return to Questions

The player doesn't start up when the song is downloaded

Select Auto Play under options.

Return to Questions

It is frustrating to save each song manually

Deselect the Prompt to Save Song box in the preferences menu under the options menu.

Return to questions

The player seems to work, but there is no sound

See if you can get any sound from your Mac. Are the speakers on, is the system speaker volume turned up, is mute selected on your Mac or on the player? See if you can play an audio cd and hear the normal beep sounds.

Return to Questions

Sound is only coming from one speaker

Check the wiring of the speakers.

Return to Questions

The playlist is confusing

Agreed. We're working on that and you will see an improvement in the future.

The pages at www.digitalphono.com look terrible

The pages were made using some 4.0 browser specifications. Earlier versions of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer will not render the pages properly.
